The University of Auckland Business School proud to be nominated as a finalist in the AMBA & BGA Excellence Awards 2024, under the Best Lifelong Learning Initiative category. This recognition places us alongside esteemed institutions like the Berlin School of Business and the University College London School of Management.

The “Five in five for 50” initiative offers MBA alumni a 50% discount on five Executive & Professional Development (EPD) courses within five years. This initiative promotes lifelong learning, peer connections post-degree and intergenerational networking among MBA cohorts.

“This is a fantastic achievement for the Business School!” EPD Senior Business Development Manager Noah Ghebremichael says. “Five in five for 50 leverages the symbiotic relationship between EPD and award-bearing professional degrees, allowing EPD to deliver cutting-edge content and to keep professionals and executives updated, complementing the tried and tested knowledge delivered by the MBA programme.”

Since the launch of Five in five for 50 in January 2023, MBA alumni have reported positive feedback such as how the “smaller day courses” enabled them to continue to “build their skillset, keep current and try new techniques”, complementing the core foundational business skills and soft skills that they picked up from the MBA. They also reported how the discounted rate encouraged them to complete more courses, extending the value of their degree to direct savings on the ability to further their education.

Professor Mike Lee, Programme Director of MBA, explains, “A Business degree provides one great tool in the career toolbox, but a qualification should only be considered a starting point for lifelong learning and ongoing career development. By the time any degree of significance is complete, there will be changes already impacting workplace, society, and business, therefore our aim is to ensure that our students (and our society) will always have lifetime access to quality learning experiences.”

“Five in five for 50 is also an excellent example of how rigorous, formal degree programmes complement Executive Short courses, which are typically less formal and recognised, but highly adaptive and agile to the present needs of professional students.”

The AMBA (Association of MBAs) accredits programmes from the top 2% of global business schools. Winners of the AMBA & BGA Excellence Awards 2024 will be revealed at a London event next year.
